Designer Collaboration: Translating Vision into Product

At Reggio Registers, I was brought into a designer collaboration of 4 vent cover designs with Clodagh to help protect the integrity of the designer’s vision as it moved from concept into a full product line. What began as 4 square vent cover designs expanded into multiple formats, including rectangular sizes, slim toe kicks, and round shapes, each requiring careful adaptation without losing the original aesthetic throughline.
My role was to act as a design checkpoint across the process, making sure the visual language remained consistent while the product scaled into dozens of sizes. I reviewed CAD drawings and 3D product renders to ensure design accuracy, dimensional integrity, and a strong match between what was shown and what could actually be manufactured. That level of precision was important not only for the final product, but also for customer expectations and trust.
Because these line drawings were used for laser cutting and spec sheets, accuracy mattered at every stage. Trade professionals relied on them to plan installations, evaluate fit, and determine whether a custom size was needed. I also considered airflow performance alongside visual and technical accuracy, helping ensure the final line of vent covers would work beautifully across residential and commercial projects.
In the end, my work helped bridge design intent, production reality, and customer experience. I served as a crucial quality control point, making sure the product honored the designer’s vision while giving customers and trade professionals the clarity they needed to feel confident in the result.
With the success of this project turning into over 100k in sales, we additionally took on a new designer collaboration this year with Plaster and Patina, where I am assisting with the same role.
